Experiencing a toothache, extreme lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, pain when biting, or a tooth pain that is waking you up in the night? You may need a root canal treatment to help eliminate bacteria from the infected root canal to save the tooth. Our Cornwall dentists on York Street offer root canal treatments to our patients to relieve pain and discomfort.
A root canal treatment is typically recommended when the core of your tooth (also called the "pulp") is inflamed and/or infected. If the pulp is infected and left untreated, it can cause more severe and permanent issues, such as tooth loss, pain, or an abscess. When this happens, our Cornwall dentists perform root canal therapy to treat it. Undergoing root canal therapy at York Street Dental Centre is a necessary step for infection, and it is the best option to avoid the need for teeth extraction. Our York Street Dental Centre team can perform root canal therapy to maintain the health and structure of your natural tooth without the need for dentures or implants as a replacement, leaving you looking and feeling your best.
At York Street Dental Centre, root canal treatment starts by clearing out damaged areas of the tooth under local anesthetic. Once the pulp chamber has been breached, more anesthetic may be injected to relieve any further pain. All the tissues within the tooth will be removed and the inside will be disinfected. The root canals will be filled with a rubber-like material and the pulp chamber is filled with cotton, and a temporary filling used to seal the opening. During the next visit at York Street Dental Centre, the temporary filling will be replaced with a core buildup, and the tooth is finished with a filling or a crown.
At York Street Dental Centre, patients typically experience very little to no pain during the treatment as sedation and/or local anesthesia can be given beforehand. A couple of visits back to our York Street Dental Centre may be necessary to ensure that your teeth are healthy and there is no remaining infection or irritation.
